We searched in the original Scottish records today.

Taking into account the wide range of ages that James McInnes claimed, it is nevertheless evident that there was no birth-baptism record made for him to parents John McInnes and Christina Scott. Registration was not compulsory at this time (until 1855) and consequently the Parish Registers are incomplete records of events
